The Columbia River Gorge was formed over thousands of years by the rushing water of the Columbia River which created high canyon walls along both sides of the river.
Most of the almost 200 waterfalls in the Gorge are on the Oregon side, including the tallest waterfall in Oregon -- Multnomah Falls.
This is where I fell in love with waterfalls over the Fourth of July weekend in 2005. When we headed out to the Gorge, I took my camera and tripod, figuring I'd snap a few shots of a couple of waterfalls and then spend the rest of the weekend taking pictures of nearby Mount Hood. But, by the end of the weekend almost 90% of my pictures were of waterfalls.
